Paying Attention, with Don Cummings
Hm. I agree with what he says about goals, but not so much about passion. I think he doesn't understand very much about passion; just the example he cites of a guy who likes sports wanting to open a sporting goods store is extremely shoddy. This notion of passion is self-indulgent and egoistic. Real passion drives you to learn and develop and gets you back up when you fail. The thing you are passionate about is the thing that keeps pulling you back no matter what -- because your life would be empty without it.Now a guy who is passionate about sporting GOODS still might not be the best bet for a store, BUT that passion can and should drive him to learn everything he can about the product, the market, etc. Passion -- real passion -- always finds a way -- as Joseph Campbell said: Follow your bliss, and doors will open where before there had only been walls. And that has been my experience.
