Starbucks is Here! Um...
Jackson Heights is the new Jackson Heights. Starbucks is all moved in on 37th, the main village road. It's great. Oh wait, it's awful. Oh wait---it increases my property value. Oh wait, it's another corporation taking over a mom-and-pop-coulda-been. Oh wait, it's great, because maybe next we'll get a book store. Oh wait, it's awful, because Queens is like something out of 1979 and that's being infringed upon. Oh wait, it's great because I can get some ass kicking tea and hang out with the locals. Oh wait, it's awful--just turning Jackson Heights into another mall-location. Oh wait. Wait. Wait. I don't know!
Okay, I like it. Does that make me a pig?

I wonder if someone has written a dissertation about the Starubucks hatred phenomenon. So many chains have swooped in to neighborhoods adversely impacting locally-owned businesses yet none other illicit the ire of the 'buck. I expect it's because, despite the mediocrity of the product, we actually like having it nearby. It's are own internal selves we are protesting against.
There, dissertation written. In a nutshell, you are a pig, get over it. oink oink
Buy a Starbuck's mug that looks like a papercup. (They have them). Use your own 3 cent teabag and boil water at home... Then go there and sit and enjoy it. No money changing hands, no papercups to recycle... And you don't have to worry if you are contributing to the destruction of 'mom and pop' America... Oh, and take your laptop!
Starbucks is good for small coffee shops

Me too (says the pig/girl who owns a Starbucks Duetto Visa card). I think Duane Reade is the one we need to keep an eye on.
