Noblesse Oblige: Forgotten

Over eighteen billion bucks in bonuses! Now that’s rich.

I have always felt that if you have a huge job with huge prestige and huge perks, why do you need so much damn money? Isn’t the position enough?

Of course, I’m a peasant and don’t really understand the full-on greed thing.

I guess these guys and gals who have the huge places on earth with huge responsibilities take most of their pleasure from the cash gift-thieving.

Everyone talks about this lack of reasonable self-waging. It’s out of control. We keep hearing it. But why do they feel no shame? And what can we do to stop them? Really?

Do they have any sense of responsibility for the common good? It’s Russia out there, friends. And it’s so fucking tacky.

I keep hearing this and reading that they will soon be a thing of the past. My former big-big-big boss at Verizon, Ivan Seidenberg claims to get zero bonus $. But according to Forbes.com, he makes 2.1 mil in salary, plus 19 mil in 'restricted stock awards' plus 4.2 mil in 'non-equity incentive plan compensation'. Over 26 mil in 2008. But he eschews bonuses. What a guy. Over 10,000 retirees live under the poverty line, according to the union.

I decided a while back that we should have income caps, and that anything you earn over a certain pretty high amount (a few million a year?) has to be donated to a charity of your choosing. That way we still have the freedom of choice that us capitalists love so much--and hence an incentive to work hard--but you're working for, say, homeless dogs instead of a yacht. For some reason no one has gotten on this bandwagon with me.

Why don't we hit them where it hurts? Let's organize boycotts.

Who do we go after first?
